In 1937, Dutch intellectual Menno ter Baak wrote an essay on the psychological basis of National Socialism. The book was first published in German in 2025 and has sparked much debate ever since.
The interesting lectures given on Monday addressed important topics. Siebo Janssen made an impassioned plea for Europe, there was a musical contribution from artist Martin Lersch, Daniel Boumanns spoke about the content of the book and the significance of Ter Braak's work, and Nils Looschelders and Franziska Frankfurth from the Freiherr vom Stein Gymnasium reported on how this book can be used in the classroom. Josef Gietemann and Willem van het Hekke did an excellent job of organising and moderating the event.
The event was very well attended and is part of the Interreg Deutschland-Nederland project ‘Herdenken, Bezinnen, Handelen’.
