Germany-Netherlands intermunicipal collaboration

Collaboration

Promoting European integration and breaking down national borders are central goals of the Euregio Rhine-Waal. The Euregio aims to achieve this goal through inter-municipal cooperation and strategic cooperation with institutions and authorities. An important task of the Euregio is to raise awareness of cross-border unity and togetherness in broad circles.

Roundtable

Cross-border cooperation between authorities and institutions has not been made easier by the still partly very different legal frameworks. The more intensive the cooperation, the more clearly problems come to light which, while they can usually be solved practically on the spot, are not legally protected.

It is therefore increasingly necessary to seek common starting points for solutions and demand their legal protection. The elaboration takes place at so-called ‘round tables’, which are formed - provided with a cross-border occupation - for certain topics (disaster relief or flood protection), or in committees, such as the German-Dutch spatial planning committee and the GROS governance structure NL-NRW.
