A cross-border freedom breakfast

5 May is naturally a very important day in the Netherlands. However, this is not only felt within the country's borders. This year, the city of Emmerich, together with the municipalities of Montferland and Oude IJsselstreek, lit the Freedom Fire and took part in a Freedom Relay.

After the 100 or so runners had walked all the way from Wageningen to Emmerich at night, carrying the fire, there were naturally many a growling stomach. Fortunately, a freedom breakfast was planned afterwards in the Christuskirche in Emmerich. This breakfast was a cosy and cross-border success and the runners set off again with confidence in the direction of Gendringen and 's-Heerenberg.

The Freedom Breakfast was sponsored by the Euregio Rhine-Waal as part of the 80 Years of Freedom programme.
