Commemoration on 6 May 2025 in Bienen

2025 is a year in which many influential events will be 80 years ago, such as, for example - in addition to all the terrible events - the end of the Second World War.

Therefore, the Stadt Rees, together with its partners Comité Leefbaarheid Megchelen, Stichting De Moezeköttel, Arbeitsgruppe Opdat Wij Niet Vergeten, Oudheidkundige Vereniging Gemeente Gendringen, Reeser Geschichtsverein RESSA 1987 e. V., and the Verkehrs- und Verschönerungsverein Rees e.V., has organised many gatherings around the theme ´80 years of Freedom´ for citizens.

On 6 May 2025, for example, a commemoration took place in Bienen/Rees, where Canadians, Dutch and Germans took part together to commemorate the Allies' crossing of the Rhine at Bienen and Rees. That there was so much interest in the commemoration shows the importance people attach to the friendship between Canada and Germany.

The project is made possible by the Interreg Germany-Netherlands programme and programme partners, and is co-funded by the European Union.
