The Regierungspräsident handed the certificate to Mr Reichert with the explicit remark that this award was not a gift, but that the school had earned the title.
Besides Regierungspräsident Thomas Schürmann, director Martin Reichert, Europa coordinator Thomas Ververs and teacher Jennifer Göcke also welcomed Dirk Timmermann, from the Bezirksregierung Düsseldorf. Mayor Dietmar Heyde and Stefan Scheepers from the education authority represented the city of Rheinberg. The city's political representative in the Euregio-gremia was councillor Ernst Barten, who had made a strong case for the certification of the Europaschule. Secretary Andreas Kochs and his deputy Heidi de Ruiter represented the Euregio Rhine-Waal.
Headmaster Martin Reichert spoke to the guests about a ‘special day for our school’. ‘The award as Euregio Profile School is a recognition of the work, commitment and active exchange in the border region. The geographical and cultural proximity to the Netherlands provides the ‘unique’ opportunity to build bridges between languages, cultures and living environments. Today, we can proudly look back on numerous projects and encounters in which our pupils have experienced how diverse, exciting and full of opportunities life in the Euroregion is.’
