The Great Journey of Small Plastic – an exhibition at Museum de Bastei

The Rhine is one of the most important waterways in Germany and the Netherlands and a cross-border connector for people, animals and nature. For this reason, organisations within the Interreg project Deutschland-Nederland “De Rijn verbindt” (The Rhine Connects) are committed to a healthy Rhine.

Museum de Bastei is one of the partners in the Interreg Deutschland-Nederland project “The Rhine Connects” and shows how the river influences our daily lives. The museum does this through, among other things, the exhibition The Great Journey of Small Plastic. One of the polluters of the Rhine is – invisible but with a major impact – microplastic!

Because everyday products turn into small, invisible plastic particles that end up in the river, these products affect not only the health of the river, but also that of the immediate environment. Museum de Bastei has managed to make the journey of these invisible particles visible through Virtual Reality.

Until 14 June 2026, you can follow the route taken by microplastics at Museum de Bastei!

The “De Rijn Verbindt” project is being carried out as part of the Interreg VI programme Deutschland-Nederland and is co-financed by the European Union, MWIKE NRW and the Provincie Gelderland.
