German pupils did an internship in the municipality of Land van Cuijk

At the beginning of October, German pupils from the Europaschule Rheinberg did a week-long internship in the municipality of Land van Cuijk. During their language stay, the pupils had the opportunity to put their knowledge of Dutch into practice.

The project is an initiative of the Europaschule Rheinberg in cooperation with Euregio Rhine-Waal. This project promotes mutual understanding, language development and cross-border cooperation. The pupils were able to do their work experience in a library, a nursing home, a daycare centre and at Sociom-Sagina. They read books to children, helped with activities for elderly people and in the daycare centre, and got to know people from different cultures. The week was very successful and a unique opportunity to actively practise Dutch and get to know the Netherlands better.

‘European thinking takes on a regional face here,’ says Han van Oort, contact person for the European School and candidate for the Land van Cuijk municipal council. ‘The young people actually cross the border to practise the language and also take a lot home with them: understanding, experience and enthusiasm.’

Due to its success, the language internship week will be organised again in October 2026.
